some more:
+ controlcenter with a couple of user-selectable-options
+ private messages
+ new-flags in database (-> are the same on all computers you use)
+ announcements/sticky-posts
yeah and much cleaner code than before, so its easier to maintain and enhance.

Maybe is right. It depends. If you are using Turck or Zend Optimizer, Phorum 3 was really really fast. Frankly, it didn't do much and once the code was in a compiled state, it flew.
However, if you were not using an optimizer, it gets debatable. We benchmarked Phorum5 over and over and over. So, the code was about as optimized as it got. The pre-compilers still help, but not as much as they did with Phorum 3.
Also, it seems to depend on the hardware. We had been running Phorum 3 on a P3-800. Phorum 5 did not run very well on that at all. BUT, it seemed to run better on our Celeron 1.8Ghz (P4 based) machine.

I thought Phorum 5 cached pages such as list.php? Surely that helps out a lot with server/DB load?
